Jakarta – Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi emphasized the government's serious commitment to promoting electric vehicles as a solution to address pollution issues. At the Pesta Rakyat: Percaya Indonesia Merdeka dari Polusi Bersama Mitra Grab event held in Jakarta on Monday (26/8), the Minister urged urban transport to switch to electric vehicles to mitigate the worsening pollution in major cities.
The Minister stated that the government is committed to making electric vehicles the primary mode of transportation for the public. Although this transition is not easy, he urged urban public transport, in particular, to adopt electric vehicles soon. He also praised Grab Indonesia's contribution to supporting the battery-based electric vehicle program aimed at reducing air pollution. Since 2019, Grab has operated over 10,000 electric vehicles in 8 major cities in Indonesia and plans to add another 1,000 units in the future.
During the event, the Minister also reminded Grab Indonesia and its drivers to always be cautious while driving and to provide the best service to the public. He hopes that Grab will provide regular education to its partners on driving safety rules and customer service to improve service quality. The event was also attended by Vice President-elect of Indonesia for 2024-2029 Gibran Rakabumi Raka, Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi, Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo, Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono, and Country Managing Director of Grab Indonesia Neneng Goenadi.
